To our NEWH Arizona Members,

As the new President of NEWH Arizona and fresh out of our Strategic Planning Session, I’m happy to report that our entire board and chairpeople are dedicated to making 2012 a fun and exciting year for our Chapter.

Our focus will be two-fold; increasing membership through programming events and raising scholarship money for students who are working toward their degrees in hospitality.   Our events give us an opportunity to network in an environment focused on sharing and mentorship and we will continue to encourage those who are new to our industry to join us.

Through our Chapter’s volunteerism, we are proud of the exposure our members get to meet others in our community, as well as thankful for the opportunity to help those in need.   It is our hope that we can increase the number of members who contribute their time and effort to our chosen causes such as St. Vincent de Paul and Christmas for the Troops and work shoulder to shoulder with other NEWH members.

Investing in our future by networking at various events and encouraging newly graduated individuals and employees  to join us will ensure that our chapter continues to thrive and grow with new ideas from a broad base of volunteers.

I look forward to a year of growth and fun with NEWH Arizona in 2012.

Our Member Spotlight... Kathy Griffiths!

Every once in awhile you meet someone who is a true role model in the hospitality industry and a stellar human as well.  For us, here at the Arizona chapter, we did not look very far to find such a person since she sits amongst us at our board meetings.  Kathy Griffiths has been a very active NEWH member for many years now and currently leads us as our Community Service Chairmen. 

Kathy has worked 27 years for Lato Supply, an FF&E supply and design company, known for its hospitality knowledge and customer service.  Kathy is a big part of the Lato Supply family brings her excellent product knowledge and design skills to every client with much enthusiasm.  Kathy makes every client feel special and important.  There is always a card in the mail from her celebrating every holiday, wishing you everything from Erin go Bragh to a Happy 4th of July! Just these attributes alone would make a great person, but Kathy does not stop there! She works very hard on her commitment to NEWH.  Kathy spends countless hours rounding up volunteers and feeding the needy at the St. Vincent de Paul kitchen every first Tuesday of the month.  She organized sending Christmas presents for the troops for our chapter the last couple years.  However, the biggest task she handles each year, is soliciting and coordinating all the prize donations for our annual bowling event.  You would have to witness the organization and thoroughness yourself to understand the attention to detail she performs in all her efforts. 

In her spare time, Kathy founded her own not-for-profit organization, Uphill into the Wind, which provides loaner bicycles for training and riding in charity races that helps raise thousands of dollars for such organizations as American Diabetes Association and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, just to name a couple.  Kathy has touched many lives with her enthusiasm and big heart and we are proud and honored to have her in our chapter.
