Dear Chicago NEWH members,

Over the past several years the chapter has grown in many ways. We have been able to network, socialize, participate in CEU’s and tours that wouldn’t be available without your support and enthusiasm. As general membership keeps rising, we keep striving to provide the events and learning opportunities that you can take back to other industry professionals to encourage them to join NEWH Chicago. Along with the events, the main endeavor of the NEWH Chicago Chapter is to raise funds for the scholarships we give away each year to students entering into the hospitality community. In 2010 the Chicago Chapter gave away $14,000 in scholarships to local students and we are looking to award close to that amount again in 2011!

With the new Chicago Board of Directors we have in place, there are many exciting opportunities in which to get involved and events and fundraisers to attend. For the first time ever, the Chicago Chapter will be hosting a NEWH Regional Trade Show! The Trade Show will take place in October and we’ll need every member’s support to make this a success. Additionally, we will have our 13^th Annual KingPin Bowling Event in April, our 4^th Annual Summer Social in July and our 4^th Annual Bootleggers’ Bash in October. We will also intersperse the rest of the 2011 calendar with Green Drinks events, CEU’s and Tours.

As always, we welcome any suggestions for ideas, sponsorships and partnerships throughout the year. If you would like to get more involved, or join a committee, don’t hesitate to contact myself or another board member with your interest. I’d also like to give a big thanks to all the outgoing board members from 2010 and the returning board members who have donated their time over the past year and continue to do so! NEWH Chicago wouldn’t be in existence if it weren’t for the dedicated members who contribute their time to the success of the chapter, and I look forward to our many successes to come.

CHICAGO’S BOOTLEGGER BASH

The Chicago Chapter held its 5th Annual Bootlegger’s Bash Fundraiser in October.  A big thank you to our generous sponsors Alger-Triton, Kohler Interiors Hospitality, Hallmark Collective, Clayton Miller Carpet, and Room 360 by FOH!  The ever popular event &raffle were very successful and together we raised over $9,000!
