Alicia Cannon, AJC Design’s founder and principal, is a graduate of Pratt Institute of Art and has wide-ranging design experience in everything from intimate residential spaces to luxury hotel remodeling to corporate redesign. At Cheryl Rowley Design of Beverly Hills and David Easton of New York, Alicia brought her signature style for innovative yet classic luxury to the hotel and hospitality industry for clients including the Palomar Hotel, Los Angeles; the Ritz Carlton, San Francisco; the Four Seasons, Philadelphia; the Westin, San Antonio; and the St. Regis, Deer Valley. She furthered her unique vision to residential and corporate interior design at Barry Rice Architects in New York.
Founded in 2007, AJC Design provides a flexible, client-oriented process that first focuses on a thorough exploration and understanding of the style and goals of any project and works hand-in-hand with the client to achieve compelling results for both function and flair. Valerie is a senior interior designer in the hospitality industry working on hotel renovations and multi-unit housing projects. She's employed at R. D. Jones & Associates, and worked prior as a hospitality designer at Marriott International where she was a Distinguished Service Award recipient. Prior to her hospitality career, she was a human resources management professional for 9 years. Valerie returned to school to earn her design degree, and successfully transitioned to interior design where she was awarded an NEWH scholarship; she has been serving on the board of directors for the Washington, D.C. Area Chapter since 2007. The networking opportunities she's experienced in NEWH are invaluable, but the function most dear to Valerie is the ability to award up-and-coming hospitality students with scholarships & opportunities in our industry. She looks forward to serving another year on the board and will gladly continue promoting NEWH & the benefits of membership.

Los Angeles Founding Chapter Fernando Diaz, ASID, CID Fernando Diaz & Associates Principal More about Fernando  Fernando Diaz, ASID, CID Delegate NEWH, Inc. Cuban-born interior designer Fernando Diaz founded Fernando Diaz and Associates in 1980 specializing in residential, commercial and retail projects. Mr. Diaz graduated from Ottawa University in 1973 with a BA degree in Entertainment Business Management, and later in 1982 from UCLA Extension with an Interior Design Certificate. In 1993 Mr. Diaz became a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California.
Fernando Diaz was facilities manager and corporate designer for one of the nation’s largest furniture leasing companies for 19 years. Mr. Diaz’s responsibilities included overseeing the design of 50+ showrooms and offices, creating a corporate image among others. He subsequently opened an accessories showroom in Las Vegas. In 1996 Mr. Diaz opened the successful Furniture Gallery at Pacific Design Center (PDC) selling designer furniture floor samples from PDC showrooms at huge savings. After a year long hiatus from the furniture showroom, Fernando re-opened Furniture Gallery in February 2004 at the exiting and energetic LA Mart Design Center.
Fernando Diaz and Associates strives for the best possible expression and solution to clients’ lifestyles and needs; projects range from small homes and offices to grand scale residences and office suites. Completed projects are located throughout the United States, Mexico and Spain.
Mr. Diaz has received numerous awards from his peers and served on the board of directors of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the Homeless Youth Foundation and is a past member of the board of trustees for the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA/LA). In 1998 – 1999 Mr. Diaz was the President of the American Society of Interior Designers/Los Angeles Chapter. His worked has graced the pages of Los Angeles Home & Décor several times as well as other publications. Television appearances include several HGTV programs.

With essentially five years of experience, she offers substantial project management and installation experience as an Interior Designer at DesignONE Studio, which is a full-service design firm, with a focused and specialized understanding of Hotel Design, providing integrated Architecture and Interior Design. Lori's skill sets allow her to convey her vision and to create inviting spaces for the hotel industry, based on the needs of the client. She is proficient in hotel renovations and conversions. In addition to Interior Design, Lori has on-site experience from working directly with a furnishings installation crew, which provided her with expertise in procurement and quality control, as well as overseeing the freight management and installation of guestroom and public space furnishings in various high-end hotels, condominiums and senior living establishments.
Lori has immersed herself into the Hospitality Design community through her affiliation with NEWH/Atlanta. She has been actively planning meaningful events and monthly networking opportunities in her role as Director of Programming throughout 2011. She is thrilled to serve on the Board in 2012 as VP of Development, representing the Atlanta Chapter as a Delegate, and mentoring newcomers on the Board of Directors.

 Katie Howell Delegate NEWH, Inc. Katie Howell is an Interior Designer at Group West Companies, an architectural and interior design firm with an emphasis on hospitality. Katie graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Michigan State University in 2005 and moved shortly thereafter to Seattle, WA to pursue her career in interior design. She enjoys hiking and exploring the Pacific Northwest in her spare time with her fiancé and their Yellow Lab, Ellie.
Katie has been a member of NEWH since 2009 when she joined the Northwest Chapter Board of Directors. She has previously filled the positions of Secretary and Programming Director but is now excited to take on the role of Vice President/Development for the 2012 calendar year.

With her extensive experience in the Hospitality world, marketing and selling countless beautiful furnishings to the A&D community, the Purchasing community, as well as the Hospitality, Contract, and retail clients, she is now marketing one of the top worldwide procurement firms to the United States market. Ginger is very passionate about this segment of the Hospitality business which is obvious in her enthusiasm for learning a totally new side of this business. Ginger began her career as the sole proprietor of Design Source, an independent rep agency selling to the Hospitality and Contracts market. Ginger helped to design and market several casual furnishings collections, which are still top sellers today. After 16 years, she was chosen to develop the Northwest Territory for JANUS et Cie, while helping to design the flagship showroom. After staffing the showroom, and hiring representation in the Northwest and Rocky Mountain states, Ginger began to focus once again on her love of Sales and Marketing to the Hospitality professional. She was then asked to assist in new marketing and business development for the US for HPG International. Ginger is passionate about people, and has raised a wonderful family – a grown son and daughter, as well as a few four legged furry canines. Her friends are as important to her as her family and business, and she has been a proud member of NEWH.org for several years. She is committed to living a life full of love, commitment, and integrity – and feels very fortunate to be able to share those traits with the very successful young people she has mentored over the years.

Sunshine Chapter Lora Spran Walt Disney World Company Associate Design Manager More about Lora  Lora Spran Delegate NEWH, Inc.Lora graduated from Northern Illinois University with a BFA in Interior Architecture and minor in Art History. Following an internship at Walt Disney World, she made Orlando her permanent residence and has continued to work for Disney since 1992. For the past 8 years, Lora has worked as a Design Manager for Facility Asset Management, a team that oversees all the room renovations, suites, lobbies and public spaces for the World Disney World Resorts. In her position, Lora rewrote the FF&E specifications to reflect a more sustainable standard and has always strived to obtain a more “green” environment for their guests. Lora is a LEED AP and Florida Licensed Interior Designer. She is a mentor to the student interns within her department, and encourages higher standards in sustainability within all design. Lora has been a member of NEWH Sunshine Chapter for 8 years and on the executive committee for 4 years. She is currently in her second term as the Sustainable Director, where she oversees a committee of 7 that plan and coordinate sustainable events throughout the year. Recently she joined the NEWH National Sustainable Committee. Living sustainable is part of life that she infuses in both her work and personal environment. |
